My path to a becoming a therapist started with my own… What’s Next Moment? One day I was healthy and making plans for my new married life and the next day a doctor told me my plans — motherhood — were not very realistic. He said I had serious infertility issues. I wasn’t sure what all that meant for me, but I would quickly find out. I had no friends or family who ever faced infertility; so to say the least I was pretty lost. My new upside down worldview consisted of doctors, hospitals, and an unending series of medical procedures. Along the journey it was suggested that I might want to seek the support of a therapist. I had no personal experience with counseling, but I did trust that this professional knew something about this journey I did not. The course of my life was forever changed by that phone call.
I discovered while in therapy that I was in much more than just physical pain. My new therapist helped me navigate in unfamiliar territory. My friends and family were helpful, but not enough to be all I needed. I needed the unbiased support and guidance of a therapist to help reconstruct my new life path.
Shortly after that came a series of… What Next Moments. My life seemed filled with family and friends who were diagnosed with terminal illnesses and required Hospice care. I went through Hospice training to better understand and help care for my loved ones. I discovered I was really drawn to this type of work. I also again sought out counseling as my personal support system.
What I discovered along the way was my passion for the creative path in life. I used talk and creative therapies to help find my new way. I used the same tools in my personal therapy that I now utilize in my private practice. I included talk, art, mindfulness, sand tray, process painting, journaling, and dream analysis.
So to end this story: I left my previous professional life and joined the psychology student population. I am now licensed as a Marriage and Family Therapist. I work with children and adults who have had a sudden change in their lives such as death, divorce, and infertility… Issues that have a life changing quality to them. I worked for Hospice in their bereavement services. There I received excellent training and skills to help me on my new path. I use my personal journey along with the professional skills I developed to help my clients heal from the inside out. I invite you to browse around on my website and experience the different creative art we use in my studio.
I graduated from University of San Francisco with a Masters in Counseling, am married with two wonderful children and a mini dachshund-who runs our household and have my private practice in the Fair Oaks Village near Sacramento.
